Job description
Role Overview
The Lansing office of Clark Construction Company seeks a Construction Superintendent to oversee daily on-site management of K-12 construction projects across Northern Michigan. This position involves managing construction activities in active, occupied school buildings, where adherence to safety, schedule, and quality standards is critical given the presence of students and fixed summer timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement 2-4 week execution plans for construction activities.
- Manage daily sequencing of trade contractors and coordinate site logistics efficiently.
- Ensure strict compliance with safety regulations, cleanliness, and protocols necessary in occupied school facilities.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to align daily activities with overall project schedules.
- Chair weekly trade coordination meetings to synchronize efforts.
- Maintain comprehensive daily reports and document all relevant field activities.
- Drive quality assurance during project closeout to minimize punch list items.
- Act as professional liaison with school district officials and administrative staff.
Performance Expectations
Success in the first year entails confidently managing occupied school sites, coordinating trades around academic timetables, and meeting fixed opening-day deadlines. Over time, the superintendent is expected to handle increasingly complex projects and mentor assistant superintendents in K-12 construction best practices.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of five years operating as a superintendent in commercial construction environments.
- Prior experience with K-12 school or other occupied-building projects is highly desirable.
- Strong abilities in short-term planning and coordination across multiple trades.
- A commanding and clear leadership presence on-site.
- Committed to upholding high safety and quality standards.
- Proficient in industry software including Phoenix, ProjectSight, and Bluebeam.
- Reliable transportation and mobility to navigate active construction sites.
