Role Overview

Join Auckland Council’s Environmental Services within the Bio Delivery team as a Conservation Advisor. This full-time position based in Auckland (City, West Auckland, or Albany) offers the chance to impact Tāmaki Makaurau’s natural environment positively by leading community-driven biosecurity and biodiversity initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion community and iwi-led conservation projects by offering resources, restoration guidance, training, and capacity building.
  • Execute elements of the Regional Pest Management Plan locally, including surveillance, compliance enforcement such as park buffer regulations, incursion response, and hands-on delivery.
  • Provide expert advice and respond to service requests for integrated biodiversity protection efforts at priority locations.
  • Manage and deliver local board conservation projects effectively.
  • Collaborate with the schools’ team to promote biodiversity and biosecurity education and community engagement.
  • Assist mana whenua, landowners, and community groups in applying for council grants and evaluate grant impact.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in conservation, biosecurity, or biodiversity roles with a solid grasp of pest plant and animal management alongside integrated site management.
  • Strong dedication to environmental stewardship with strengths in biodiversity/ecological research supported by biosecurity expertise.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building capabilities, enabling effective collaboration with landowners, community groups, and mana whenua.
  • Familiarity with delivering technical advice to foster biodiversity outcomes.
  • Contract management skills are helpful but not mandatory as this can be developed on the job.
  • Possession of a valid, clean New Zealand driver’s license.
