Position Summary
As a Conflict Analyst based in our Cape Town office, you will play a vital role in protecting the firm's risk profile and smoothing client onboarding. Your work will involve conducting thorough conflicts checks, performing corporate and party research, and analyzing issues to provide attorneys with concise, well-supported summaries delivered punctually and with discretion.
Work Schedule and Location
- Monday to Friday from 3 PM to 12 AM South African Standard Time.
- This is a full-time, in-office position located in Cape Town.
Compensation
The salary for this role ranges between 300000 and 600000 ZAR annually, depending on your qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct conflict screenings for new matters and parties using internal databases and authorized sources, preparing succinct, evidence-backed reports within established SLAs.
- Detect potential conflicts and related entities; manage escalation procedures and maintain documentation for waivers and ethical screens where necessary.
- Execute corporate genealogy and background checks through commercial data providers and publicly available records to validate entity status, ownership, and significant relationships.
- Create detailed research briefs that highlight exposures, inconsistencies, and information gaps, offering recommendations for appropriate handling.
- Ensure precision and thoroughness by verifying and reconciling data across systems, correcting errors, and keeping audit-compliant records of searches, references, and decisions.
- Act as an efficient contact point for attorneys, legal assistants, and administrative staff by promptly acknowledging requests and delivering findings that support quick and informed decision-making.
- Identify trends in exceptions, recommend search procedure improvements, and help optimize turnaround times through process enhancements.
- Assist with designated special projects as required.
Candidate Profile
- Must hold a legal degree.
- Possess at least two years of experience in litigation or a minimum of three years in conflicts analysis or similar risk and compliance roles.
- Proven capability to interpret legal documents including pleadings, orders, and corporate filings.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to concisely summarize findings and highlight risks.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information using discretion and sound judgment.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, with a track record of fostering effective cross-team relationships.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office tools and quick to learn specialized databases and research platforms.
- Exceptional attention to detail and dedication to delivering superior client service.
