About the Role
Austal Defence Australia (ADA) is seeking a Configuration Management Officer to facilitate and oversee Project Configuration Management (CM) activities as per the approved CM Plan. Collaborating closely with the Configuration Manager/Lead, you will ensure effective CM process implementation throughout the entire project lifecycle, safeguarding the integrity, traceability, and control of configuration data. Your role supports customer acceptance of vessels and smooth transition to sustainment phases, upholding compliance, quality, and consistency within complex maritime defence projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and execute Configuration Management activities aligned with project schedules and contractual obligations.
- Assist in completing, verifying, and closing out CM deliverables within prescribed timelines.
- Accurately capture and control configuration data and changes in the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
- Support planning and conduct of Configuration Audits, including both functional and physical audits, along with associated reporting.
- Maintain and distribute Configuration Status Accounting reports to ensure stakeholders receive precise and prompt updates on baselines and changes.
- Facilitate Engineering Change Management by tracking and assessing impacts of configuration modifications across the project.
- Comply consistently with established CM processes and procedures to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Identify and suggest improvements for CM tools, processes, and methodologies for continuous enhancement.
- Promote collaboration among internal teams and external stakeholders including engineering, production, quality, and customers.
- Assist in harmonizing configuration management tasks across various project disciplines such as Design, Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain.
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate IV or higher in a relevant technical field.
- Proven experience working within structured processes and maintaining meticulous technical records.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage various stakeholders effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with data management systems.
- Background in Configuration Management within defence, maritime, engineering, or manufacturing sectors.
- Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) platforms.
- Understanding of engineering change procedures and configuration control principles.
- Relevant maritime degree, trade certification, or equivalent industry expertise.
