Job description
About the Role
Walt Disney Imagineering’s live entertainment team develops and delivers immersive experiences across Disney theme parks, resort hotels, cruise ships, and other venues. The group brings together many creative and technical disciplines to build memorable entertainment through strong storytelling, inventive design, and production craft.
In this casual temporary role, you will contribute as a creative concept artist and illustrator, using visual storytelling across illustration, fine art, and graphic design. The position is hourly and temporary, with no guaranteed weekly schedule; hours may rise or fall depending on business requirements. The role reports to the Manager, Art Studio.
What You Will Do
- Create compelling visual storytelling using a range of techniques such as quick sketches, storyboards, mood boards, environmental concepts, character sketches, finished illustrations, and digital fine-art paintings.
- Handle assigned work with little supervision and manage tasks independently.
- Partner with internal teams including Art Directors, Show Directors, Walt Disney Imagineering, and Marketing.
- Contribute to design work for non-entertainment business partners across The Walt Disney Company.
- Develop productive working relationships with clients, vendors, and other support teams.
- Support projects of varying scope, from small-scale pieces to large, highly complex concepts.
- Estimate the effort and labor needed to complete assigned work.
Required Qualifications
- At least 5 years of experience in the entertainment industry, including show development and live-show operations, with drafting ground plans, detail drawings, schematics, and 3D visuals.
- Strong manual drawing and sketching ability.
- Broad command of art styles ranging from line art to complete illustration work.
- Solid working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Deep familiarity with Disney characters and the ability to keep artwork on-model and aligned with brand standards.
- Consistent commitment to keeping up with current industry developments.
- Availability for flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience creating models with 3D design tools.
- Background in animation and character design.
- Additional language skills are considered an advantage.
Education
A college degree, or equivalent hands-on experience, in Theater Arts, Fine Arts, Visual Arts, or Graphic Arts, with an emphasis on live show entertainment.
Compensation
The Florida pay range for this position is $49,800 to $66,720 per year, calculated on a 24-hour work week. Scheduled hours may vary based on business needs.
