Key Duties

- Work with scheduling staff to track interpreter assignments, confirm coverage, and make adjustments as needed.
- Spot coverage issues, cancellations, and short-notice needs early, then help resolve them in real time.
- Step in to support assignments directly or recommend other suitable options to keep services running smoothly.
- Provide input on interpreter pairing and assignment fit based on qualifications, skills, and client requirements.
- Support teammates by demonstrating professional behavior, participating in case conferencing, and helping with skill development.
- Offer cultural and communication guidance in complex interpreting situations involving Deaf, DeafBlind, and hearing clients.
- Keep communication timely and dependable with internal teams and follow through on assigned responsibilities.
- Join case conferences, debriefs, and peer discussions to encourage quality improvement and professional growth.
- Follow internal procedures, customer-specific expectations, and all required documentation practices.
- Perform at-home VRI work when not assigned to client-site interpreting.
- Keep certifications, required training, and compliance records current for regulated work environments.
- Represent the organization professionally in the community and act in line with ethical interpreting standards and company values.
- Remain flexible for occasional evening work and urgent assignments, including a rotating on-call schedule of 1–2 weekends per month, with at least one weekend required and two weekdays off in the week after each on-call weekend.
- Help with planning and execution of community-based events when needed.
Qualifications
- Strong fluency in American Sign Language and spoken/written English.
- At least 3 years of professional community interpreting experience.
- RID Certification or VQAS Level III, or an equivalent credential; uncertified candidates may be considered if they obtain certification within 1 year of hire.
- CHI (Certificate of Healthcare Interpreting) is strongly preferred.
- Good knowledge of the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct and Deaf cultural competency.
- Ability to analyze situations quickly and make sound decisions in fast-paced or high-pressure settings.
- Comfort using Zoom, Google Workspace tools such as Calendar, Docs, and Sheets, and internal scheduling systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills and clear communication abilities.
- Dependable, adaptable, and consistently professional.
Additional Requirements
- Candidates must have reliable personal transportation for travel to and from job sites.
- The role involves routine local travel in a personal vehicle for up to 3 hours per day, with occasional longer travel.
- A minimum internet speed of more than 20 MBPS is required.
