About the Position
Become a vital part of the Future Rail Experience Centre team, an interactive venue dedicated to showcasing the next generation of rail transport within South East Queensland. As a Community Information Officer, you will facilitate captivating tours, educational sessions, community gatherings, and impactful visitor experiences for a diverse audience including school groups, local residents, industry professionals, and other stakeholders.
The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority is executing a significant infrastructure project: building a new 10.2-kilometer rail route featuring 5.9 kilometers of twin tunnels beneath Brisbane River and CBD, alongside four underground stations. This enhancement aims to alleviate congestion through the core rail network enabling increased train frequency across the region. Supporting projects include station accessibility upgrades, new constructions on the Gold Coast, rail yard improvements, track work, and the introduction of a cutting-edge ETCS signaling system.
Job Responsibilities
- Engage visitors and the community through delivering interactive tours, presentations, educational programming, and community outreach initiatives at the Future Rail Experience Centre and various events across South East Queensland.
- Manage visitor enquiries and booking arrangements, ensuring seamless administrative operations.
- Support daily operational tasks within the centre, ensuring an informative and efficient visitor experience.
- Provide precise and up-to-date information regarding the Cross River Rail project and regional rail developments.
- Occasionally work weekends and travel within the region as necessary to support events and programs.
Work Hours and Availability
- This is a casual, ongoing part-time role based in Brisbane CBD with typical weekly hours ranging from 8 to 10, increasing up to 20 during peak periods like school visits and events.
- Availability on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays is essential, with preference for at least two of these days per week.
- Opportunities may arise on Mondays and Fridays with potential weekend work during busy periods.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated experience in customer service, hospitality, tourism, retail, events, or community engagement roles.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills with confidence addressing individuals and groups.
- Friendly, professional demeanor paired with excellent organization and attention to detail.
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing constructively within a team environment.
- Willingness to support occasional weekend shifts and community engagement events.
Mandatory Requirements
- Possession or eligibility to obtain and maintain a valid Blue Card for working with children and First Aid certification.
- Current Open or P2 Driver Licence along with reliable personal transport.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience delivering tours, educational programs, public presentations, or managing community events.
- Background in visitor attractions, museums, tourism, education, infrastructure, or community relations.
