About the Role
Tayco, a modern office furniture manufacturer, is seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Commercial Space Designer to join its dynamic team in Etobicoke, Ontario. This contract position, expected to last approximately 12 months, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a growing company that values Ownership, Progressiveness, Efficiency, and Enjoyable Experiences. The role focuses on providing design solutions, product recommendations, and pricing to enhance company sales and customer satisfaction, while collaborating closely with the sales team to develop both existing and new client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Develop and present design solutions, including 2D/3D drawings, renderings, and parts lists, based on client project information and requirements.
- Generate approximately 90 quotes per month or manage half a sales territory, prioritizing requests based on dealer tiers, customer deadlines, and a first-in, first-out basis.
- Consult with the Engineering department for custom requests, filtering special requests through the Engineering Decision Tree and preparing necessary engineering items.
- Review and verify the accuracy of drawings and parts lists.
- Obtain necessary material up-charge information from the purchasing or engineering departments.
- Proactively recommend products to customers to increase satisfaction and improve transaction profitability through cross-selling, up-selling, and add-on sales.
- Educate customers on product terminology, features, and benefits to boost sales and satisfaction.
- Coordinate with Customer Service and Order Analysts to ensure a seamless transition from quotation to order processing.
- Collaborate with team members to cover orders and territories during absences, acting as a supportive team player.
- Perform other assigned duties as required.
Requirements
- Possess a degree, diploma, or certificate from a post-secondary institution, or equivalent experience of at least two years in Interior Design, Industrial Design, Engineering, or a related field.
- Previous project management experience is advantageous.
- Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and recreating architectural drawings, floor plans, and written specifications.
- Skilled in using design software such as CET, Auto CAD, CAD KEY, 20-20, Giza, and rendering software, alongside a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new computer programs, adapt to evolving environments, and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
- Excellent communication skills, including clear, polite, and friendly phone etiquette, strong listening abilities, and proficient spelling and grammar.
- Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail, ability to maintain focus, and effective workload prioritization.
- Capacity to work collaboratively within a team, communicate effectively with colleagues, and exhibit leadership qualities and empathy.
- Competency in basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) across various units of measure, including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Understanding of basic geometry and algebra.
- Ability to apply common sense to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions.
- Aptitude for troubleshooting and negotiation to resolve issues in complex or crisis situations.
- In-depth knowledge of the industry, products, space planning principles, and the complete order process to make informed and tactful decisions.
- Familiarity with Tayco's product offerings and finishes to competently manage the order process.
