Role Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Commercial Director based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to lead and manage the commercial aspects of its project portfolio within the country. This strategic position requires ensuring that projects meet contractual commitments, achieve financial targets, and comply with internal governance protocols, leveraging strong commercial insight combined with engineering consultancy experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret AtkinsRéalis’ rights and obligations across its Saudi Arabian projects.
  • Provide overall support to Project Directors to ensure project delivery aligns with contractual terms and achieves the contracted profit margins as per financial goals.
  • Coordinate commercial agreements involving service delivery among internal sectors and external sub-consultants.
  • Develop and oversee commercial administration, monitoring, and change control processes conforming to internal business systems, including managing risk and variation registers.
  • Enhance commercial knowledge and skills among Project Management and Design delivery teams in Saudi Arabia.
  • Assist project-based commercial staff across live projects in the country.
  • Manage escalations and reporting related to claims against Atkins professional indemnity insurance.
  • Conduct commercial reviews and audits of active projects within the country.
  • Ensure compliance with AtkinsRéalis Business Management System and related procedures.
  • Monitor adherence to service delivery processes during project phases and address queries.
  • Evaluate monthly financial statements and recommend actions concerning risk registers and project contingencies.
  • Promote proactive risk management aimed at converting contingency funds into profit margins on live projects.
  • Collaborate with finance and project teams to manage debts effectively, aiming to transform debt provisions into profit and loss gains.
  • Provide guidance on consistent billing practices aligned with contracts to maximize positive cash flow.
  • Encourage proactive identification and communication of financial risks threatening projects.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified with a BEng/BSc in engineering, quantity surveying, or equivalent from a recognized western university.
  • Professional membership such as MRICS, MCIOB, MCIPS, or MCIArb is essential.
  • Possesses over 15 years of relevant experience with a global engineering or cost consulting organization.
  • Expertise in preparing, reviewing, and evaluating contracts and subcontracts.
  • Understanding of the design process throughout the project lifecycle and site operations.
  • Experience in contract correspondence, financial modeling, and pricing proposals.
  • Knowledge of project planning, programming, and the preparation and evaluation of delay claims.
  • Proficiency in managing contract variations and claims procedures, including claims preparation.
  • Senior-level commercial experience on substantial design and construction projects.
  • Strong negotiation skills and risk management practices.
  • Proven ability to cultivate successful client relationships with an external market focus.
  • Experience working in the Middle East region is highly valued.
  • Business-oriented mindset with commercial awareness and emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills, team collaboration, self-motivation, and excellent communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to travel regularly within the region and exhibit persistence and strong analytical abilities.
