Role overview

iwoca is hiring a Collections & Debt Recovery Specialist to strengthen recovery outcomes while treating customers fairly and carefully. The role sits in a fast-moving, service-oriented environment where the focus is on finding the right solution for both the customer and the business.

What you will do

  • Manage a large portfolio of customer accounts in arrears from first contact through to resolution, while dealing with a range of individual situations.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing calls, letters, and emails with professionalism, precision, and strong service standards.
  • Maintain regular contact with customers to understand their circumstances, confirm agreement breaches, and work toward resolution.
  • Agree, set up, and track workable repayment arrangements that reflect the customer’s position and the company’s interests.
  • Collaborate with different internal teams to assess each case and decide the most suitable next step.
  • Work with Collections Management and the Head of Collections to refine recovery approaches and improve outcomes.
  • Coordinate with external partners such as debt collection agencies and paralegals, monitoring their activity to support the best result.
  • Follow relevant laws, regulatory guidance, company procedures, and internal policies at all times.
  • Protect and uphold the company’s reputation in every interaction.
  • Keep systems and databases accurate and current by recording actions, notes, observations, and results throughout the recovery process.

Requirements

  • Curiosity and confidence in using AI tools in practical ways to solve problems, improve productivity, and raise work quality, along with good judgement about when and why to use them.
  • German language ability at C1 level, with the confidence to speak with clients, negotiate arrangements, and manage difficult conversations.
  • At least 1 year of debt recovery experience is preferred, ideally in a commercial or business setting.
  • Clear communication, accuracy, professionalism, and confidence.
  • Empathy, patience, and a calm approach when handling sensitive situations.
  • The ability to deal with varied challenges, think creatively, and respond quickly.
  • Commercial awareness, an entrepreneurial mindset, and genuine interest in helping SMEs.
  • Experience in the finance sector is an advantage.
  • A mindset that is smart, humble, motivated, and focused on continuous improvement.

Compensation

The expected pay range for this role is €34,000 to €46,000, with a stated compensation range of €36,000 to €46,000. Applicants are invited to share salary expectations. Pay is benchmarked against market rates, with quarterly performance and salary reviews.
