Job description
Job Purpose
This role is focused on generating insurance business through an assigned relationship or channel partner within a defined area or zone. The Cluster Manager must influence the partner so they can in turn recommend Birla Sun Life Insurance to their customers. The position is also responsible for delivering complete pre-sales and post-sales assistance to both the relationship partner and end customers, working closely with the dedicated team aligned to the relationship. A key expectation is not only to achieve business targets, but to deliver steady quarterly growth.
Job Context and Main Challenges
The position operates in a setting where business must be grown through an assigned banking relationship in an open-architecture model. Since the business is mainly linked to unit-linked insurance products, market conditions can affect outcomes significantly. Another challenge is that HDFC branch banking teams have their own priorities, so strong alignment and coordination are essential. The role also requires balancing internal process expectations with the needs and expectations of channel partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver premium and revenue targets to support overall company growth.
- Stay in regular contact with channel partners, including multiple branch heads, to maintain strong business flow.
- Map all important decision-makers and share updates with the RH/ZH team.
- Drive and promote all organization-led recognition and reward initiatives.
- Develop creative branch-level activities to improve customer reach and penetration.
- Keep sales and service operations running smoothly, including sales calls, policy issuance, and complaint resolution.
- Communicate process updates, rule changes, and regulatory changes through training or other internal learning formats.
- Handle customer needs with a strong understanding of insurance and bank product offerings.
- Manage relationships at all levels to achieve the intended business outcomes.
- Identify new business opportunities within the assigned relationship or geography to improve productivity and topline performance.
- Support activation efforts, with focus on 40% activation, 2 cases per active, and an average ticket size of 50K.
- Work toward the advised product mix of Traditional 50%, ULIP 40%, and Term 10%.
- Push for 15% more business than TATA and share inputs for new products and sales pitches based on channel needs.
- Assess and communicate training needs for both internal teams and channel-partner teams.
- Review business on a regular basis and report relevant findings to superiors.
- Use welcome calls to connect with customers.
- Work with customers to resolve queries promptly so renewals happen on schedule.
- Protect persistency levels in line with company standards so renewals are completed on time.
Requirements
- Strong capability in relationship management with banking and channel partners.
- Good knowledge of insurance products and bank products.
- Ability to handle sales, service, complaint resolution, and renewal coordination.
- Comfort with target-driven work in a competitive and changing market environment.
- Ability to align internal process requirements with partner expectations.
- Skill in identifying new opportunities and improving customer penetration.
- Capability to coordinate training needs and communicate process changes clearly.
Additional Information
This role requires constant coordination with branch leadership and partner teams in a high-dependency bank distribution environment. Success depends on consistent follow-up, strong relationship ownership, and the ability to balance business growth with compliance and process discipline.
