Job description

About Profectus and Role Overview

Profectus is seeking expressions of interest from experienced Cloud Platform Engineers to engage in upcoming projects in secure Australian Government environments. This role focuses on engineering cloud platforms by coding infrastructure rather than manual console operations, covering infrastructure as code, container platforms, pipeline automation, and internal developer experience in complex and often isolated setups. Engineers will develop and maintain cloud capabilities as code within highly structured and well-regulated settings.

Core Responsibilities

  • Architect and maintain cloud platform capabilities as code on AWS or Azure ecosystems.
  • Create and manage infrastructure provisioning primarily through Terraform.
  • Operate Kubernetes or similar container orchestration platforms, beyond deployment tasks.
  • Design, implement, and uphold Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to enable secure and reliable deployment processes.
  • Develop automation and platform tools using Python, Go, or analogous programming languages.
  • Write scripts for building, deployment, and operational activities utilizing Bash and PowerShell.
  • Package applications with Helm charts and manage configurations with YAML.
  • Ensure platform security is aligned with ASD Information Security Manual standards and required accreditation protocols.
  • Deploy observability solutions using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk to monitor platform health and performance.
  • Maintain comprehensive operational runbooks and documentation for platforms.
  • Provide dependable platform and developer experience support to multiple internal delivery teams.

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Proven experience engineering cloud platforms on AWS or Azure.
  • Strong expertise in infrastructure as code, notably with Terraform.
  • Hands-on operational experience managing Kubernetes or similar orchestration systems.
  • Proficient programming or scripting skills in Python, Go, or similar.
  • Competent in designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for secure delivery.
  • Understanding of ASD Information Security Manual requirements impacting platform design.
  • Advanced skills using Bash scripting for build, deployment, and operational workflows.
  • Ability to clearly document and communicate platform details with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in classified, air-gapped, or isolated cloud environments.
  • Background supporting multiple internal delivery teams within platform engineering.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk.
  • Certifications like AWS Solutions Architect, AWS DevOps Engineer, Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, or HashiCorp Terraform Associate.
  • Experience delivering solutions for Australian Government entities.

Security and Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be Australian citizens.
  • Holding a current Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) NV2 clearance (minimum) is mandatory.
