Job description
About the service
Coventry City Council works in partnership with NHS and Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust through the Integrated Community Equipment Service. The service supplies equipment to people living in Coventry so they can manage daily life more independently, and it supports hospital discharge and prevention work alongside professionals such as occupational therapists, physiotherapists, district nurses, social workers, doctors, and specialist therapists.
About the role
The cleaner/store person is responsible for handling disability and community equipment as it comes into the service and when it is returned from residents. A key part of the role is making equipment safe for reuse by cleaning and decontaminating items manually or with cleaning machinery. Some equipment may be small, while other items are larger and need to be dismantled before cleaning and then rebuilt once dry and ready to be packed.
The post also involves warehouse duties such as receiving equipment from suppliers, preparing items for collection, assembling equipment, packing it, storing stock, and picking products from different parts of the warehouse. The role includes identifying items that are beyond repair or need maintenance, and carrying out some maintenance work so equipment can be recycled and reused where possible.
Working expectations
This is a busy, hands-on role that requires you to follow established policies and procedures to keep processes running smoothly and safely. The work can be physically demanding, so the ability to manage manual tasks and use good judgment independently is important.
Requirements and checks
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK, as sponsorship is not available for this position. This post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, so appointment depends on a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Previous applicants should not apply again.
Inclusive recruitment
Coventry City Council is committed to building a workforce that reflects its communities and values difference in all forms, including diversity of thought. Applications are particularly encouraged from people from minority ethnic, LGBT+, disabled, and neurodiverse communities.
The council operates a guaranteed interview scheme for candidates who meet the minimum requirements and identify as one of the following: serving members of the Armed Forces or veterans, people who are currently in care or who have previously been in care, and people who consider themselves disabled or who have a long-term health condition.
Application guidance
Support is available for candidates who need help completing an application. The council also states that any evidence of AI being used to complete an application may lead to rejection unless a reasonable justification is provided.
About Coventry City Council
Coventry is described as a creative, innovative, diverse, and energetic city with a strong history of community action and social change. The council aims to recruit and develop people who focus on residents, take responsibility, work collaboratively, and improve services continuously. A rewards and benefits package is available to employees.
