Overview

Department of Education, Western Australia is building a talent pool for Cleaner positions at Bicton Primary School. Opportunities may be permanent or fixed term, and both full-time and part-time appointments could become available during the 2026 school year through to the end of Term 2, 2027. Suitable candidates may be appointed at any point when a vacancy arises within that period.

Bicton Primary School was founded in 1904 and is located in Bicton, a well-established suburb around 6 km east of Fremantle near the Swan River. The school is part of the South Metropolitan Education Region. Its 120th anniversary was marked in 2024. The school’s guiding vision is to nurture, inspire and support success, and its core values are Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Aspiration.

Role summary

Reporting to the Cleaner in Charge, this position covers a broad mix of internal and external cleaning tasks across the school. Duties include keeping carpets and hard flooring in good condition, cleaning toilets, furniture, fixtures and windows, carrying out dusting, and removing rubbish. During vacation periods, the role also includes more intensive work such as stripping and sealing vinyl floors, shampooing carpets, and pressure cleaning verandas.

The Cleaner is expected to notify the relevant supervisor about faults, maintenance concerns and incidents, while ensuring all cleaning work meets Department requirements and workplace safety standards.

Eligibility and application requirements

To be considered, applicants must have a valid Working With Children Check, agree to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number from the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before commencing. Applicants must also be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a valid visa with work rights for the duration of the appointment.
