Role overview
The Civil Lead Engineer is responsible for safeguarding the technical integrity, reliability, and availability of civil and structural assets within the assigned area. This position provides expert civil engineering guidance, reviews and approves design packages, and supports decisions that are technically robust, cost-conscious, and aligned with company operating needs and safety expectations. The role also holds custody of the assigned Civil Asset Master Plan.
Key accountabilities
- Offer specialist engineering support and technical input to SASREF business units and departments for project development, engineering studies, shutdown/turnaround planning, and improvement initiatives.
- Create, track, and update civil asset maintenance strategies to strengthen plant reliability and asset integrity.
- Provide engineering guidance for project design work and act as technical authority for approving design modifications.
- Maintain the engineering library, archives, and as-built plant documentation to preserve drawing-system accuracy and support internal stakeholders.
- Support the MCP department by preparing and reviewing scopes of work and monitoring contractor execution to ensure suitable services are delivered effectively.
- Contribute technical information and recommendations for building a strong departmental business plan.
- Ensure all related work is performed in line with SASREF policies, procedures, and accepted best practices, while remaining safe, efficient, and cost-effective.
- Guide, encourage, develop, and evaluate the assigned team to help meet business goals and build capability.
- Maintain custody of the Civil Master Plan and keep it current.
- Carry out any other duties related to the role as assigned by the direct manager.
Qualifications and experience
A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or an equivalent qualification, is required. The role calls for at least 12 years of relevant experience.
Safety expectations
Workplace Safety (WPS) and Process Safety Management (PSM) are core responsibilities in this role.
- Keep personal safety and the safety of others protected at all times.
- Follow all IOWs, Safe Operating Procedures, and Safe Work Instructions to help prevent WPS and PSM incidents.
- Comply with the SASREF HSE Policy, the 5 Safety Principles, and the 8 Life Saving Rules at all times.
- Performance is measured by zero personal injury, zero injury to third parties, and zero WPS or PSM incidents caused.
Cybersecurity expectations
The role also requires strict protection of SASREF systems and data through good cybersecurity practices.
- Follow cybersecurity best practices when using SASREF assets and information.
- Comply with all information security policies and cybersecurity requirements.
- Report suspicious emails, including phishing-test messages.
- Performance expectations include zero failures in phishing campaign tests, 100% completion of assigned cybersecurity awareness training, and zero cybersecurity violations or negative behavior.
