Job description

About the Company

Dexgreen develops and manufactures fibre optic cable and connectivity solutions for the telecommunications sector. The business is expanding its engineering and research-and-development functions and is hiring an Optical Fibre Test Engineer to support that growth.

The position is suited to someone who wants to build technical depth in a fast-moving, innovation-led environment with strong emphasis on technology development and career progression.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Head of Testing & Evaluation, you will receive training on a broad range of optical fibre test systems and build specialist expertise over time. The role will contribute to product verification as well as the development of new products.

After becoming established in the role, you will take responsibility for routine test programmes and work closely with the R&D and Engineering teams on emerging product lines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and look after advanced telecoms testing equipment, including optical spectrum analysers, fibre optic test platforms, mechanical load fixtures, and environmental chambers used for temperature, humidity, and damp-heat testing.
  • Help refine and improve test methods so that testing processes remain effective and accurate.
  • Run test programmes for fibre optic cables and connectivity products.
  • Support validation work for new product designs and development projects.
  • Assist with preparing and testing prototypes for both internal review and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to support materials such as installation videos and demonstration content.
  • Carry out batch testing to confirm compliance with internal standards and industry requirements.
  • Prepare clear and detailed test reports for Quality Assurance and Engineering teams.
  • Support approval testing and verification activities for new products.
  • Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for testing processes.
  • Help produce technical datasheets, installation instructions, and other test-related documentation.
  • Keep technical and testing records well organised and up to date.
  • Work with the Marketing team to ensure product collateral is technically accurate.

Skills and Experience

  • A third-level degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or a closely related subject.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competence using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in a laboratory, workshop, or testing environment is desirable.
  • Previous exposure to fibre optic testing or telecoms equipment would be an advantage.
  • Experience preparing technical documentation or multimedia material is desirable.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines.
  • A practical, hands-on approach to tools, equipment, and prototypes.
  • Customer-facing communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is beneficial.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally when needed.

Why Join Dexgreen?

  • Work with advanced fibre optic technologies.
  • Join a growing engineering team with an innovative focus.
  • Gain practical experience with specialist test equipment.
  • Access opportunities for learning, development, and career growth.
