Position Overview

Absolute Land, an Invercargill-based land development consultancy and part of the Southern Land group, is seeking a qualified Surveyor or Civil Engineer with project management experience to join their team full-time. This role involves contributing significantly to project delivery across Southland, New Zealand, working closely with clients, contractors, and councils.

Primary Duties

  • Manage engineering contributions throughout all project stages including consenting, design, tendering, construction, and title processing.
  • Develop detailed civil designs for land development initiatives involving earthworks, water management, and road infrastructure, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Prepare tender and contract documents, quantity schedules, cost estimates, and oversee NZS3910 construction contract administration.
  • Perform on-site construction inspections to verify compliance with design specifications and collaborate with contractors for quality assurance.
  • Handle or assist with s223 and 224c certification and title processing applications.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, local councils, contractors, and consulting teams.
  • Support quality assurance activities to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of plans, drawings, and models.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Possess a degree or diploma in surveying or civil engineering, such as B.Surv, B.Eng, BEngTech (Civil), or NZDE (Civil).
  • At least three years of relevant experience in civil engineering focused on land development projects.
  • Firm knowledge of three waters systems, earthworks, and roading design, with practical skills in software like 12d or Civil 3D.
  • Demonstrated involvement in subdivisions and land development projects, managing processes from permitting through to construction.
  • Strong communication skills for teamwork and client engagement.
  • Organized, proactive, and adaptable to balancing multiple projects simultaneously.
