Role Summary

The Chief Strategy Officer will work remotely on a full-time basis and will guide MMESS’s long-range strategic direction and organizational development. This position is centered on shaping strategic plans, connecting initiatives to the society’s mission, and working with executive members to determine priority projects.

Core Duties

In this role, you will review market and industry trends, identify and assess new opportunities, contribute to financial planning for initiatives, and track the progress of active programs. You will also collaborate with student leaders, faculty contacts, and outside partners to make sure strategic efforts are communicated clearly, remain practical, and create measurable impact.

Additional responsibilities include preparing strategy reports and presentations, advising on risk-related decisions, and encouraging a culture where data guides planning and execution across MMESS.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should bring strong strategic and business planning ability for building and executing long-term initiatives. Solid analytical capability is needed to review data, judge opportunities, and assess the results of strategic work. A basic understanding of finance is important for budgeting, resource allocation, and keeping programs financially sustainable.

Experience with executive-level coordination, team leadership, stakeholder management, and organizational change is valuable. Strong communication, presentation, and collaboration skills are essential, especially in a remote setting. Prior leadership in student bodies, nonprofit groups, or similar environments is an added advantage. A background in engineering, business, management, or a related discipline is helpful, along with familiarity with academic or student society settings.
