About the Company

Oppono Lending Company, based in Markham, Ontario, is a Canadian private lending and mortgage finance firm seeking a seasoned Chief Financial Officer to join its leadership team. This organization focuses on capital asset lending within the mortgage finance sector.

Role Overview and Responsibilities

The CFO will play a pivotal and hands-on role encompassing financial strategy, management of mortgage portfolios, and operational financial oversight. Key duties include:

  • Steering the financial strategy, planning, and reporting processes across the company.
  • Overseeing cash flow management, liquidity, treasury functions, and capital allocation decisions.
  • Handling budgeting, financial forecasting, and sophisticated financial modeling.
  • Monitoring key mortgage portfolio metrics such as arrears, defaults, loan-to-value ratios, and concentration risks.
  • Ensuring robust financial controls, governance practices, and comprehensive reporting frameworks.
  • Delivering financial reports to the Board of Directors, shareholders, lenders, and other investors.
  • Managing audits, tax matters, regulatory compliance, and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborating closely with the CEO and executive leadership on significant financial and operational choices.
  • Maintaining productive relationships with banks, auditors, legal advisors, and other financial stakeholders.
  • Supporting financing activities including credit facilities, capital raising, and strategic financial initiatives.
  • Leading and developing the finance and accounting teams.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven senior financial leadership experience, such as CFO, VP of Finance, Controller, or similar capacities.
  • Direct involvement in private lending, mortgage lending, private credit, banking, real estate finance, or closely related financial sectors.
  • Deep understanding of mortgage portfolio management, credit risk assessment, liquidity, leverage, and capital management.
  • Experience operating within regulated financial service environments.
  • Strong expertise in financial reporting, audits, taxation, compliance protocols, and corporate governance.
  • Skilled at presenting complex financial information to boards, investors, and senior-level stakeholders.
  • A CPA designation is highly preferred.
  • Additional experience with mortgage investment corporations, mortgage administration, institutional lending, or structured finance is beneficial.

Additional Information

The ideal candidate is commercially savvy, analytical, and adept at both operational and strategic financial decision-making. They must be capable of identifying financial risks, scrutinizing assumptions, and delivering clear, actionable advice to senior leadership.

Location: Markham, Ontario (full-time, onsite)

Compensation: Annual salary range from $190,000 to $225,000 CAD, with further compensation opportunities based on experience, performance, and contribution.
