Job Overview
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) acts as the primary financial strategist for Lynn County Healthcare System, providing leadership in financial planning, cash flow management, and risk mitigation to ensure the institution's fiscal stability and sustainability. Reporting to the CEO and Board of Directors, the CFO plays a key role in guiding financial decisions, maintaining compliance, and supporting organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the CEO and Board to define financial strategies, establish priorities, and set long-term sustainability goals.
- Develop and continuously update multi-year financial plans aligned with the healthcare system’s strategic and operational priorities.
- Conduct forward-looking financial analyses, forecasting, and scenario planning to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity closely, preparing rolling forecasts to maintain financial visibility.
- Identify potential financial and operational risks proactively and propose corrective measures to prevent crises.
- Manage accounting operations, budgeting processes, and internal control systems to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee timely preparation of financial reports with detailed interpretation and trend analyses to inform leadership.
- Lead the Controller’s office responsible for accounting execution, financial closure, and compliance adherence.
- Ensure revenue cycle integrity by verifying proper revenue recognition, identifying and resolving reimbursement issues, and maintaining awareness of regulatory changes.
- Communicate financial information to the CEO and Board through comprehensive presentations, emphasizing future projections and strategic financial implications.
- Maintain adherence to all federal, state, and regulatory requirements, supporting external audits and insurance evaluations.
- Foster a collaborative, mission-driven culture focused on balancing financial stewardship with patient care.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is required; master’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of five years of financial management experience within hospital settings is necessary.
- Demonstrated experience as a hospital CFO managing financial strategy, cash flow, and executive decision support.
- Experience with Critical Access Hospitals is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and financial reporting software; experience with Trubridge preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Advanced analytical and critical-thinking skills.
- Clear communication abilities, both written and spoken, for executive and board-level audiences.
- Capacity to lead teams, manage change, and operate effectively under pressure.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift objects up to 25 pounds and perform physical activities including bending, stooping, walking, and reaching frequently.
- Capacity to tolerate moderate to high stress and work collaboratively in a dynamic healthcare setting.
- Exposure to some unpleasant odors and potential blood-borne or airborne pathogens; duties fall under OSHA Task Category III.
Compliance and Additional Responsibilities
- Adherence to all policies, including the organization’s Code of Ethics, HIPAA regulations, and reporting standards.
- Oversee audits and maintain internal controls to support clean audit opinions and regulatory compliance.

The CFO engages regularly with executive leadership, board members, staff members, vendors, auditors, regulatory agencies, and patients.
