Job description
Role overview
Southern Cross Care Queensland is looking for a Chief Executive Officer to guide the organisation into its next phase of renewal, expansion, and lasting influence. This is a major leadership role for an experienced executive who can strengthen an already solid platform, stay true to a values-driven mission, and help define the future of a respected care organisation working across Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria.
About the organisation
The organisation provides care, accommodation, and support services and is represented in this search by Hoffmann Reed. Its work is grounded in Catholic moral and social teachings, with a mission centred on respecting human life and serving people who place their trust in the organisation.
With services spanning residential aged care, retirement living, and home care, the organisation already has a stable operational and financial base and a clear intention to evolve for the future.
What the CEO will do
Reporting to the Board, the CEO will turn the organisation’s vision into a practical strategy and develop the capability needed to deliver it over the long term. The Board wants a leader who can protect existing strengths while also building the strategic, financial, commercial, and leadership capacity needed to keep the mission strong in a changing environment.
The role calls for careful decisions about where the organisation can deliver the most value for older people, families, and local communities. It also requires the confidence to look beyond the current mix of residential care, retirement living, and home care, and shape the organisation into a modern, sustainable, future-ready provider.
Key priorities
- Convert the vision into a clear, persuasive strategic direction.
- Improve organisational capability, leadership strength, and overall performance.
- Increase financial capacity so the organisation can invest for the future.
- Identify the areas where the organisation can deliver unique value in a changing care market.
- Lead change while preserving trust in the mission, history, and values.
- Work closely with the Board to support long-term sustainability and impact.
About you
The successful candidate will be a proven senior executive who has led large, complex, multi-site organisations in customer service-focused environments. You will bring strategic clarity, sound commercial judgement, and the ability to lead significant change.
You should be comfortable making difficult calls, bringing people together around shared priorities, and developing the capability needed to achieve them. You will also need the maturity to work confidently with a mission-led Board, workforce, stakeholders, and communities who are closely connected to the organisation’s purpose and legacy.
Success profile
- Senior executive experience in complex, service-led organisations.
- A history of leading transformation, growth, and organisational renewal.
- Strong strategic, commercial, and financial capability.
- Ability to build confidence, trust, and alignment across varied stakeholders.
- Judgement to balance continuity, change, purpose, and performance.
Values and leadership approach
The right leader will operate in a way that reflects the organisation’s values of Service, Courage, and Compassion.
This is a rare opportunity to lead a respected organisation with a meaningful mission, a solid foundation, and an ambition to shape the future of care.
