Job description
Overview
The Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) seeks a qualified, honest, self-driven, and seasoned professional to fill the position of Chief Analyst in the Chemistry department. This pivotal role reports directly to the Head of Laboratory Services and requires overseeing laboratory technical operations, ensuring timely analyses, and maintaining high-quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee laboratory technical activities, ensuring all analyses are conducted within established timelines.
- Support the Head of Division in managing technical operations, administrative tasks, and financial oversight within the laboratory.
- Ensure punctual completion of laboratory analyses as scheduled.
- Guarantee the production of accurate and detailed analytical reports by junior staff and thoroughly review these reports.
- Monitor and evaluate laboratory procedures, systems, and programs to maintain optimal performance.
- Implement and supervise Quality Management Systems (QMS), Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) protocols, and quality standards across all laboratory processes.
- Develop and periodically review job descriptions, performance contracts, and appraisal systems for laboratory personnel.
- Coordinate and implement training and competency development programs for laboratory staff according to set schedules.
- Ensure timely maintenance, servicing, calibration, and internal verification of all laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Lead efforts in operational and procedural re-engineering to promote continuous improvement.
- Verify and validate all analytical methods used and provide expert troubleshooting support for any analytical complications.
- Develop and administer the Regional Centre for Regulatory Excellence (RCORE) training program.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Science Honors Degree in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Chemical Technology, or a related field.
- A Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Pharmaceutical Chemistry is advantageous.
- Minimum of five years post-qualification experience in Quality Control and/or Quality Assurance within pharmaceutical manufacturing or regulatory settings.
- Comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience with current Good Laboratory Practice (cGLP) and understanding of current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) in pharmaceutical quality management.
- Advanced expertise in laboratory instrumentation and equipment management.
- Strong interpersonal and public communication capabilities with fluency in English.
