Role overview
The Category Manager, Indirect Sourcing is responsible for coordinating and improving the sourcing of indirect suppliers across assigned categories. The position focuses on collecting and analyzing data, identifying potential suppliers, preparing quotes, qualifying vendors, and assessing gaps to support sourcing decisions. It also involves creating category sourcing strategies, managing supplier relationships and performance, and driving savings initiatives for the categories in scope.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and nurture supplier partnerships within assigned categories to increase value delivered to the business.
- Put effective purchasing practices and supplier records in place for sourcing activities tied to relevant categories.
- Ensure suppliers are trained on applicable processes and procedures, while also building communication plans for key stakeholders.
- Set and monitor sourcing objectives and metrics related to cost savings, supplier performance, and sourcing decisions, taking internal and external factors into account; support supplier negotiations when needed.
- Track supplier and product performance, identify gaps, and define corrective actions so business targets and return on investment are achieved.
- Review market conditions and supply trends to assess availability and pricing, and recommend efficient procurement routes where appropriate.
- Contribute to ongoing cost-reduction and value-improvement initiatives across the supply chain, and lead them when relevant.
- Promote adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Help prepare annual sourcing plans aligned with annual profit plans.
- Take on additional tasks as required by management to support business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a closely related discipline, or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with ERP platforms and procurement tools such as RFQs, contracts, scorecards, and reporting.
- Background in procurement or purchasing within a manufacturing setting.
- Proven ability to work effectively with business partners and build strong professional relationships.
- Experience creating and executing category management plans with global suppliers.
- Demonstrated success in commercial and contractual negotiations.
- Experience managing critical suppliers and material-related vendor relationships.
- Solid commercial judgment and strong business awareness.
- Preferred: familiarity with scientific and technical markets relevant to the company’s business.
- Preferred: experience in a complex laboratory environment is helpful, though not required.
- Preferred: APICS, CIPS, or an equivalent professional qualification or experience.

Compensation and additional information
The expected annual salary band for this Toronto-based role is between 96,242 and 130,210 CAD. The final base salary will depend on factors such as education, certifications, relevant experience, and skills.
