About Cubic Defense

Joining Cubic means becoming part of a global organisation that builds technology-enabled solutions for transportation and defence. Its work is centred on making travel simpler and supporting mission success and the safety of those who serve. The company operates through major business groups such as Cubic Transportation Systems and Cubic Defense, and places a strong emphasis on innovation and customer service.

Role overview

This position supports training exercises and exercise-control activities in a defence environment. The work covers equipment handling, mission-system checks, preparation of exercise facilities, observation and analysis of tactical events, and the creation of post-exercise learning materials. The role also involves supporting procedures, equipment movement, and vehicle operation as required.

Key duties

  • Manage the issue and return of customer equipment used during exercises.
  • Carry out routine maintenance checks and verify the operation of the mission system.
  • Help establish the Exercise Control Centre, accommodation, and After-Action Review facilities.
  • Deliver pre-exercise training to participants.
  • Work at an analysis station in the control centre during exercises.
  • Monitor and assess tactical activity with Army Observer Trainers to support multimedia after-action reporting.
  • Support the gathering and organisation of training observations with Army Observer Trainers.
  • Enter Observer Trainer observations into the Defence lessons database.
  • Assist with preparing the exercise Take Home Pack, including lessons learned and AAR material.
  • Help management ensure standard operating procedures are followed.
  • Support Engineer Systems in reviewing and improving SOPs within their functional area.
  • Assist with setup and pack-down of training exercise equipment.
  • Operate support vehicles up to medium rigid level.

General responsibilities

  • Work in line with the company’s quality management system.
  • Follow occupational health, safety, and environment policies and procedures.
  • Comply with security requirements under organisational policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to human resources procedures.
  • Take on other duties as needed.

Experience and knowledge needed

The role calls for at least 2 years of experience in a similar position. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Industry security clearance. A working understanding of Army environments and terminology is important, particularly within Combined Arms Training up to Combat Team level. Strong capability with Microsoft Office applications is also required.

Personal attributes

The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a small, high-performing team, able to travel when needed, and prepared to work outdoors. Strong interpersonal, organisational, and time-management skills are essential, along with clear written and verbal communication. The role also requires a high level of customer support, a service-focused mindset, and the ability to stay effective in a busy, high-volume environment while maintaining a strong standard of delivery.

Employment conditions

Appointment is subject to a successful National Police Check. This role is for an employee worker type. The duties, responsibilities, and requirements may change over time depending on business needs.

Inclusion

The employer welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and maintains an inclusive workplace. Hiring decisions are made without discrimination on the basis of any protected characteristic under applicable law.
