Job description
Role Overview
This position focuses on delivering quick, courteous, accurate, and safe customer service at checkout. The cashier handles purchase and return transactions, keeps an eye on the self-checkout zone, and helps customers with basic product or project information while spotting opportunities to support sales.
Core Duties
- Process customer purchases and return transactions efficiently and accurately.
- Monitor the self-checkout area and maintain a smooth customer flow.
- Share product and project knowledge to assist customers and identify additional selling opportunities.
- Follow company policies and procedures to help reduce shrink.
Head Cashier Responsibilities
For a Head Cashier, the role also includes placing cashiers where needed, supporting the team with price checks, and approving point-of-sale transactions and markdowns across mainline registers, self-checkout, returns, Pro Desk, Special Services, and Tool Rental. This person also serves as the first point of escalation for customer concerns and helps supervise, coach, and train front-end associates, including onboarding new cashiers and using available tools to develop team members.
Preferred Experience
The preferred background for a Head Cashier is at least 1 year of cashier experience.
