About the Role

Manchester City Council is seeking a dedicated Caretaker to join the Homeless Temporary Accommodation Services team. This crucial role involves ensuring that hostels are maintained to a high standard of quality, safety, and sustainability. Responsibilities

  • Maintain the internal and external appearance and cleanliness of buildings.
  • Conduct inspections and report identified issues.
  • Liaise with customers to address concerns and needs.
  • Find solutions to routine situations and escalate complex issues to supervisors.
  • Interpret and adhere to basic rules and guidelines.
  • Respond promptly to tasks that may occur outside of daily routines.
  • Work alongside volunteers and support on-site activities.

Requirements

  • Ability to find solutions to routine situations.
  • Ability to interpret basic rules and guidelines and know when to refer to a supervisor.
  • Effectively maintain the internal and external appearance and cleanliness of buildings.
  • Ability to carry out inspections and liaise with customers.
  • Must hold a valid UK driving license.
  • Possess a friendly and non-judgmental approach to citizens.
  • Willingness to work alongside volunteers and support program activities.
  • Flexible approach and willingness to respond promptly to tasks outside daily routines.
  • Must have the legal right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not provided.
  • Willingness to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
  • Proof of Manchester Residency may be required for certain roles.
  • Hold a full, clean driving license and provide own car for business use.

Eligibility

Applicants must have the existing legal right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available. Candidates who meet minimum shortlisting requirements and identify with criteria such as being a member of the Armed Forces, a current or former care leaver, or having a disability or long-term condition may be guaranteed an assessment. Proof of Manchester Residency may be required for certain roles (Grade 1-3, traineeships, apprenticeships). A full, clean UK driving license is required.
