Job description

Role purpose

The Care Assistant will provide everyday personal care and practical support to the people supported by Delta Centre. This role calls for a strong commitment to the belief that people with intellectual disabilities have unique, valuable, and equal contributions to make in society.

Working alongside management, the postholder will help ensure that each person supported experiences a life that is safe, meaningful, inclusive, and of a high standard.

The position demands a deep level of understanding, dedication, and respect for each individual service user and for the services provided by Delta Centre. Above all, the best interests and wellbeing of the people using the service must remain the priority at all times.

Key responsibilities

  • Support each service user in a way that reflects Delta Centre’s values, care plans, and person-centred approach.
  • Help individuals to be treated with dignity and respect in all interactions.
  • Encourage and support service users to make their own choices.
  • Create opportunities for learning, participation, and contribution.
  • Show empathy and sensitivity in daily support work.
  • Follow and apply care plans and person-centred plans accurately.
  • Use suitable communication methods to understand and respond to individual needs.
  • Help each person move toward greater independence, communication, and personal growth.
  • Build trusting relationships through consistent and dependable care.
  • Work in line with Delta Centre policies, procedures, the employee handbook, and established working practices.

Education and experience

A FETAC Level 5 qualification in Health Care is required. Previous experience in the health care field is essential, along with proven ability to care for and support adults with intellectual disabilities. A genuine interest in this area is also necessary.

Skills and knowledge

Applicants should have a strong understanding of how to interpret and apply legislation, including the National Standards for Adults with Disabilities. Excellent communication, strong motivation, accurate record keeping, and the ability to develop positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders are all important. The role also requires flexibility, adaptability, and willingness to work shifts around the clock.
