Role Overview

This entry-level CAD detailer position is suited to someone who can create accurate drawings for sales teams, customers, building authorities, and field technicians. The role supports high-profile events across the country and is ideal for candidates who want to develop their skills and grow with a company experiencing strong expansion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce precise 2D drawings in VectorWorks, AutoCAD, and SketchUp for scenic flats, steps, decks, deck plugs, pipe-and-base arrangements, drape line plots, and basic stage plans.
  • Turn rough sketches, notes, and existing drawings into clean drafting packages for Project Managers and Production Designers.
  • Build simple 3D visual models of scenic elements when needed to help with coordination and presentation.
  • Use company drafting standards and templates to keep all drawings uniform.
  • Prepare drawing sets that can be used for fabrication and onsite setup.
  • Work with fabrication teams to confirm that construction drawings are clear and correct.
  • Revise drawings based on markups, redlines, and field updates.
  • Join internal production discussions and, from time to time, visit sites to verify drawings.
  • Keep digital files, revision histories, and drawing records organized and up to date.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate degree, technical certificate, or formal CAD training is preferred. Experience or internship exposure in live events, scenic fabrication, or theatrical production is considered an advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong 2D drafting ability in VectorWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of SketchUp for basic scenic modeling.
  • Understanding of scenic build components and stage layouts.
  • Careful attention to detail and the ability to follow both written and spoken instructions.
  • Ability to read shop standards and apply them correctly in drawing packages.
  • Good organization for handling multiple projects and version control.
  • Comfort working with teammates in a changing, fast-paced setting.
  • Basic Microsoft Office and file-sharing platform skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Candidates must successfully complete a background check and drug screening.
  • A willingness to learn through training and mentorship is expected.
  • Some overtime and occasional site visits may be required.
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop is helpful but not mandatory.
