Job description
About the role
This remote contractor position is centered on quality leadership for C programming data work used in AI training. You will assess AI-produced C code as well as reviewer and trainer output, then verify that the work meets project rules and quality expectations. The role calls for strong C expertise, clear written English, careful judgment, and the ability to coordinate quality checks across distributed technical teams. The organization is a fast-scaling AI data services company that supports training data needs for major AI companies and foundation-model labs.
There is no active project attached to this opening right now. If you are a match, you may be contacted first when relevant work becomes available, and you may also gain access to future opportunities through the expert network.
Key responsibilities
- Review C-language tasks regularly, detect quality problems, and share precise feedback with contributors through direct messages.
- Audit AI-generated C code, debugging answers, pointer and memory examples, algorithmic solutions, test cases, and technical write-ups.
- Keep trainers and reviewers informed on Discord about process changes, workflow updates, and standards for C reviews.
- Handle questions about pointers, dynamic memory, compilation, undefined behavior, portability, embedded limits, testing, and rubric interpretation.
- Follow up with inactive contributors, record availability, and manage activation and re-engagement efforts.
- Build and maintain style references, trackers, FAQs, examples, honeypots, calibration tasks, and onboarding resources for C work.
- Lead onboarding or training calls for contributors working on C-related projects.
- Identify unsafe, misleading, non-compilable, memory-unsafe, or otherwise production-unready C guidance and escalate risks where needed.
- Spot recurring quality issues and help refine QA procedures and workflows.
Candidate profile
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar hands-on experience is expected.
- Strong English communication skills are needed to interpret instructions and provide clear technical feedback.
- You should bring at least 3 years of professional experience in C programming, systems software, embedded development, firmware, operating systems, performance work, code review, QA, or technical mentoring.
- A solid command of C fundamentals is required, including pointers, arrays, memory allocation, structs, function pointers, preprocessor macros, header files, compilation and linking, undefined behavior, file I/O, bitwise operations, and portability concerns.
- You must be able to recognize buffer overflows, memory leaks, use-after-free bugs, invalid pointer arithmetic, race conditions, non-compiling code, hallucinated APIs, and incomplete explanations.
- Working knowledge of GCC, Clang, MSVC, Make, CMake, GDB, LLDB, Valgrind, sanitizers, embedded toolchains, POSIX APIs, unit testing, GitHub, CI/CD, profiling, and static analysis is preferred.
- Prior experience guiding remote trainers, reviewers, engineers, coding mentors, or QA teams is strongly preferred.
- Comfort using Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, GitHub, and project management tools is important.
- You should be highly organized and able to maintain documentation such as style guides, FAQs, onboarding materials, calibration items, trackers, and honeypots.
- Experience with AI training, LLM evaluation, code quality assurance, or rubric-based code review is a strong advantage.
