About the Role
We are collaborating with a commercially-driven life sciences company to recruit a Business Development and Licensing Associate. This newly established position will support the worldwide expansion of a CRISPR/Cas9 licensing portfolio spanning multiple sectors including life science tools, drug discovery, bioproduction, synthetic biology, agriculture, animal health, and industrial biotechnology. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in life sciences combined with commercial acumen, strong organisational skills, and an interest in bridging science, intellectual property, and global business development.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and evaluate new licensing prospects in pharmaceutical, biotech, academic research, technology transfer offices, and related life sciences markets globally.
- Oversee daily management and upkeep of Salesforce CRM, ensuring data quality, enriching account information, and supporting pipeline reporting.
- Serve as a critical liaison connecting Business Development, Marketing & Communications, and the Business Development Representative teams.
- Conduct research and establish engagement with target organizations applying CRISPR/Cas9 technologies.
- Effectively communicate intricate scientific, commercial, and IP concepts to potential licensees in an understandable manner.
- Assist in deal preparation activities, including prioritizing targets, performing account research, and providing support with term sheets.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a degree in biological sciences, biotechnology, business administration, or a relevant field.
- Have at least one year of experience in business development, technology transfer, industrial licensing, or a similar commercial function.
- Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to distill complex scientific or technical concepts clearly.
- Be highly organised and analytical, comfortable working in a result-driven environment.
- A self-motivated individual who thrives working in a dynamic, fast-paced international setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience specifically with out-licensing, technology transfer, or deal-making in life sciences.
- Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM tools.
- Understanding of licensing economics, contract terms, and deal structures.
- Knowledge of CRISPR/Cas9 technology or related sectors such as synthetic biology, cell-line engineering, agricultural biotechnology, industrial biotechnology, or animal health.
Additional Information
The role requires readiness to travel occasionally, up to approximately 10 days each quarter, providing international exposure. The person sought is proactive, commercially inquisitive, and able to communicate and collaborate effectively across different time zones and cultural contexts. Transparency about knowledge levels and support requirements, especially concerning scientific, IP, or contractual challenges, is essential.
This position offers a compelling opportunity to grow a career in business development and licensing within a specialized global life sciences environment.
