Bus Operations Expert (f/m/d)

About the Role

This position sits within DB Engineering & Consulting GmbH’s branch office in Saudi Arabia and is based in Makkah. The role supports bus operations for a major public transport program, with responsibility for on-the-ground oversight, operational guidance, and continuous improvement of service delivery. The opportunity is suited to an experienced transport professional who can contribute to safe, efficient, and high-quality bus operations while working with a range of public and private stakeholders.

What You Will Do

• Offer leadership, supervision, advice, and hands-on support on all public transport and bus operation matters to the Project Director and Public Transport Expert.
• Carry out field-based duties to make sure operations meet required standards and continue to improve over time.
• Help ensure Makkah bus operations are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the expected quality level.
• Collaborate with the Makkah bus operator, government bodies, community groups, and other stakeholders to develop and implement transport solutions.
• Make certain that all operational activities follow local, state, and federal rules, with passenger safety kept as the top priority.
• Support the introduction and management of technology that strengthens service delivery, including real-time tracking and automated fare collection.
• Work with the local community to collect feedback, explain services, and encourage the use of public transport.
• Resolve operational issues and create practical improvements that increase reliability and efficiency.

Candidate Profile

The position calls for a highly experienced professional with a strong background in bus operations or public transport. The successful candidate should be comfortable advising on operational matters, coordinating with ministries and government agencies, and working in large-scale operations and maintenance environments. Experience in the Middle East is strongly preferred, along with the ability to manage multicultural teams. Arabic proficiency is preferred, and solid English communication skills are also needed.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree is required; qualified and chartered status is also specified.
• At least 15 years of total experience is needed, including a minimum of 5 years in bus operations, public transport, or a closely related role.
• Prior regional and international exposure is preferred, especially experience in the Middle East.
• Background in bus operations with the ability to guide others on operational decisions and practices.
• Experience working with ministries, government agencies, and both public and private stakeholders in the Middle East.
• Exposure to large operations and maintenance setups, including leadership in a multinational workforce environment.
• Arabic language skills in speaking, writing, and reading are preferred, alongside spoken and written English.
• Only Muslim applicants are eligible for the Makkah City work location.
• Strong computer literacy is required.
• Excellent communication abilities are essential.
• A valid driving licence is required for travel to site visits and technical meetings with the client representative.
