Role Summary
The Planning & Development team’s Building Division is looking for an auxiliary Building Official with substantial field inspection background to join the team on a two-day-per-week basis. In this role, you will carry out a broad set of building inspection duties, including plan assessment and on-site inspections. The position supports the city’s statutory responsibility to protect public life, health, and welfare by ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. You will also serve as a key point of contact for parties involved in the building process, offering direction, interpretation, and enforcement support.
Experience Level
This opportunity is intended for a Level 3 Building Official with significant hands-on inspection experience to help meet current operational needs.
Requirements
- BOABC Level 3 certification.
- Current registration as a Building Official with the BOABC.
- At least 5 to 8 years of substantial experience as a building official, with notable involvement in field inspections for Part 9 and Part 3 buildings.
- A diploma in Building Technology or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution, or a recognized trades apprenticeship combined with code-related construction courses, along with considerable field experience in building construction and/or municipal plan review; an equivalent blend of education and experience will also be considered.
- Valid British Columbia driver’s licence and access to a private vehicle, as a city vehicle is not provided.
- Ability to obtain and keep a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector screening.
- Plumbing Official qualifications would be an advantage.
Work Arrangement
This is an auxiliary role requiring availability for approximately two days per week.
