Overview
Central Otago District Council is experiencing significant growth and is seeking a dedicated Building Control Officer - Inspector to join its Regulatory Services team in Alexandra, Otago, New Zealand. This permanent full-time role offers an opportunity to contribute expertise in ensuring safe, compliant, and top-quality building outcomes that directly impact the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed building inspections to confirm adherence to approved building consents and the New Zealand Building Code.
- Review and assess applications for Code Compliance Certificates (CCC).
- Identify any non-compliant building work and respond appropriately in line with legislative standards.
- Offer professional regulatory advice and support to builders, designers, and members of the public.
- Maintain comprehensive and precise regulatory records within Council's systems.
- Assist in upholding the Council's Building Consent Authority (BCA) accreditation and quality assurance frameworks.
Required Skills and Experience
- Possession of a recognised qualification aligned with Regulation 18 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006.
- Practical experience in building inspections or building control roles.
- Proven ability to competently conduct Residential 1–2 storey building inspections and CCC assessments.
- Strong understanding of the Building Act 2004 and the New Zealand Building Code.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving capabilities.
- Capability to work effectively within a regulatory and team-focused environment.
