Role overview

Hornsby Shire Council is looking for a motivated Building Certifier to join its team in a permanent full-time capacity. This position is based on 70 hours per fortnight, with a salary between $77,500.52 and $104,459.01 per annum, plus superannuation and a 9-day fortnight. Pay within the range will depend on the successful candidate’s experience, qualifications and capabilities. A leaseback vehicle is also provided.

Key role focus

This role requires strong organisational ability and a proactive approach to building certification work. The successful person will bring solid knowledge of certification, fire safety, land-use planning, swimming pool safety, compliance and the regulatory processes connected to the NSW building certification framework. The role also calls for practical understanding of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997, Local Government Act 1993, Swimming Pools Act 1992, the National Construction Code and other delegated NSW legislation.

Role duties and working relationships

You will work closely with the Building Certifications Team Leader, keeping them informed on matters relating to building certification, including Building Information Certificates, Construction Certificates, Complying Development Certificates, swimming pool barrier inspections and fire safety. The role also involves using sound negotiation, certification and regulatory capability to achieve results aligned with the Council’s Operational Plan and Delivery Program.

Candidate profile

The ideal applicant will have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to negotiate, mediate and resolve complex matters effectively. Relevant practical experience is required, as well as a current NSW driver licence and qualifications recognised by the NSW Building Commission for registration as a Building Certifier.
