About the Role

We are seeking a PhD-level biochemist to contribute to the training and refinement of advanced AI systems used in scientific research. In this remote contract position, your expertise will help improve how AI handles complex life-science reasoning across topics such as protein folding, metabolic flux, enzyme kinetics, and molecular genetics. Prior AI experience is not required; strong scientific depth is the key requirement.

Role Details

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Engagement type: Hourly contract
  • Work mode: Fully remote
  • Expected commitment: 10–40 hours per week

What You Will Do

  • Develop advanced biochemistry questions across areas such as nucleic acid chemistry, proteomics, structural biology, and drug-target interactions to test AI performance.
  • Write precise, step-by-step reference answers that can be used as high-quality benchmarks for scientific reasoning.
  • Review AI-generated outputs, including biochemical pathways, molecular structures, and mathematical proofs, for accuracy, safety, and correctness.
  • Spot reasoning mistakes such as incorrect stoichiometry, faulty stereochemistry, or misuse of kinetic models, then provide structured feedback to improve model performance.

Who We Are Looking For

  • A completed PhD, or a PhD in progress near completion, in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong grounding in one or more relevant areas such as structural biology, enzymology, cellular metabolism, bioinformatics, or pharmacology.
  • Ability to explain complex biological and chemical ideas clearly and succinctly in writing.
  • Careful attention to detail, especially when handling equations, molecular diagrams, and experimental procedures.
  • No previous AI experience is necessary.

Preferred Background

  • Exposure to data annotation, quality review, or scientific peer review work.
  • Hands-on familiarity with tools such as PyMOL, AlphaFold, or BLAST.
  • Experience in bioinformatics or computational biology.

Why This Role May Appeal to You

  • Contribute to advanced AI initiatives in collaboration with leading research labs and AI teams.
  • Enjoy a flexible, fully remote schedule that can be managed from anywhere.
  • Benefit from freelance-style independence, variety, and global collaboration.
  • Help shape how AI interprets and communicates scientific information.
  • There is potential for continued assignments and contract renewal.
