About the Role
This contract opportunity is designed for experienced physicists who want to help advanced AI systems better understand the physical world. The work involves challenging AI models on topics ranging from quantum mechanics to thermodynamics, identifying weaknesses in physical reasoning, and improving the reliability of model outputs against the laws of physics.
The role is fully remote and flexible, making it suitable for researchers and academics who want to apply deep subject expertise to high-impact AI work. Prior AI experience is not required; strong physics knowledge and sharp analytical thinking are the key requirements.
Role Details
- Organization: Alignerr
- Engagement type: Hourly contract
- Work mode: Remote
- Weekly commitment: 10 to 40 hours
What You Will Do
- Develop difficult physics problems at PhD qualifying-exam standard, with multi-step reasoning and advanced mathematical work.
- Create carefully worked-out model answers that include correct constants, unit handling, and logical progression.
- Review AI-generated simulations, proofs, and explanations to check whether the physics remains consistent and grounded in first principles.
- Give structured expert feedback that strengthens physics-aware reasoning, including use of boundary conditions, conservation laws, and dimensional checks.
- Work across key areas such as classical mechanics, electrodynamics, statistical mechanics, quantum mechanics, and related subjects.
Candidate Profile
- You should hold a PhD, either completed or near completion, in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a related discipline.
- You need strong command of the main foundations of physics, including classical mechanics, electrodynamics, statistical mechanics, and quantum mechanics.
- You must be able to explain complex concepts and derivations clearly in well-structured English.
- High precision is essential, especially when handling units, notation, and the flow of reasoning.
- You should be comfortable working autonomously and asynchronously with little day-to-day supervision.
- No previous AI or data annotation background is needed.
Nice to Have
- Experience in data annotation, scientific dataset review, or research quality assurance.
- Working knowledge of MATLAB, COMSOL, Python (NumPy/SciPy), or similar technical tools.
- Exposure to computational physics, engineering physics, or applied research environments.
- Experience producing technical documents, academic publications, or educational content.
Why This Role May Appeal to You
- Take on intellectually demanding AI problems while contributing alongside leading research teams.
- Enjoy a remote setup with flexible scheduling around your existing commitments.
- Benefit from freelance-style independence while doing meaningful scientific work.
- Help improve how AI systems reason about the physical world with greater accuracy and consistency.
- There is potential for continued assignments and contract renewals as new work becomes available.
