Job description

About Forbidden Bike Company

Forbidden Bike Company began in 2018 on Vancouver Island, Canada, and takes its name from the Forbidden Plateau, the riding terrain around its headquarters in Cumberland, British Columbia. The company launched with a single product, the Druid, a clear focus on bicycle design, and a commitment to avoiding mass-market trends. It has since grown into a premium mountain bike brand with a broader product lineup and a team that is genuinely passionate about riding the products it creates.

The organization is rider-led, ambitious, and closely connected to the riding community it comes from. It aims to be the kind of workplace people want to be part of: product-focused, calm yet efficient, and appreciative of the people behind the work.

Role Overview

Forbidden Bike Company is seeking a full-time Bike Designer to join its growing team. The ideal candidate will have an engineering background and hands-on experience designing and engineering bike products. The role is expected to average 37.5 hours per week and will report to the CEO/Director of Product and Brand.

This position plays an important part in the design and engineering of Forbidden bike products. The selected candidate should be available during standard business hours, Monday through Friday, and be willing to contribute across other areas of the company when needed, as this is a small team environment.

The job is based in Cumberland, British Columbia, and the successful applicant must be able to work from or regularly visit the company’s headquarters office.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $61,800 to $66,950 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer bicycle frames and components under the guidance of the CEO/Director of Product and Brand.
  • Work with manufacturing partners in Canada and abroad to refine production methods and meet targets for frame and component design, weight, and performance.
  • Track design changes through multiple revisions and coordinate with testing engineers to ensure products achieve durability and performance goals.
  • Maintain records of design updates and communications with suppliers.
  • Provide technical guidance to sales, marketing, and customer experience teams so they can effectively sell, promote, and support the products.
  • Offer technical support to IBD partners.
  • Contribute to broader product development efforts as needed.
  • Represent the company at industry events when required.
  • Share input on marketing, customer experience, and sales initiatives.
  • Assist with bike testing, maintenance, tuning, and assembly as needed.
  • Provide regular updates on project status and work progress.
  • Handle other reasonable tasks tied to operational needs.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in a design or engineering role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent design-related education or experience.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills, with the ability to juggle priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-focused setting.
  • Experience leading engineering and design projects from concept to prototyping, iteration, and final completion.
  • Advanced experience creating complex surfaces with 3D modeling software; SolidWorks is preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of dimensioning and tolerancing, along with FEA experience.
  • Ability to review QC data and respond appropriately to manufacturing or product teams.
  • Awareness of suspension bike ride characteristics and how they affect performance.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Comfort using Microsoft enterprise productivity and collaboration tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while also supporting additional work when needed.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally to support design work.
  • Genuine passion for riding, shown through work and life experience.
  • Strong knowledge of mountain bike products and the mountain bike industry.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Compensation and Benefits

The position offers a competitive salary aligned with experience and may include performance bonuses. Employees also receive a rider discount on Forbidden bikes and gear. The company emphasizes a small, high-trust team environment that moves quickly and focuses on building meaningful products.
