BI Engineer

Role Overview

The BI Engineer will spearhead the design, development, and deployment of data analytics solutions for the Department of Aviation (DOA). This position emphasizes creating impactful, intuitive dashboards and reports using Power BI along with leveraging Microsoft Power Platform tools to enhance process efficiency and support strategic decisions across the organization. Collaboration with Airport Information Systems (AIS) and DOA stakeholders is critical to define and execute analytics, reporting, and dashboard projects, promoting a data-driven culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Research, architect, and implement innovative BI and Power Platform solutions that align with organizational objectives.
• Work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, define metrics, and establish success standards for BI projects.
• Build, maintain, and optimize Power BI dashboards, reports, and data models to deliver actionable insights.
• Develop workflows and custom applications using Microsoft Power Platform components such as Power Apps and Power Automate to streamline operations.
• Design and manage robust data transformation processes and pipelines to support reporting needs.
• Conduct advanced analyses including predictive modeling and statistical evaluations to support business decisions.
• Handle large datasets effectively using Power Query and similar technologies.
• Create custom Power Apps solutions tailored to operational requirements and integrate them with existing systems.
• Automate manual processes using Power Automate to improve organizational efficiency.
• Integrate Power BI with Microsoft tools like SharePoint, Teams, and Dynamics 365 to enhance collaborative reporting.
• Maintain detailed documentation of data models, architectures, workflows, and reporting processes.
• Ensure compliance with data governance, standards, and architecture guidelines.
• Promote data-driven storytelling and the usage of BI tools among stakeholders.
• Provide training and mentorship on Power BI and Power Platform best practices including visualization and automation techniques.
• Keep up to date with emerging technologies, best practices, and trends in Power Platform and BI analytics.
• Recommend and implement data-driven strategies improving budgeting, staffing, marketing, and operational decisions.
• Collaborate with AIS and other teams to ensure data quality, availability, and consistency.
• Participate in all phases of BI and Power Platform projects, including testing, validation, and deployment.
• Explore innovative ways to utilize existing data and develop new solutions using the Power Platform ecosystem.
• Perform additional related duties as required to meet departmental goals.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline. Equivalent professional experience is acceptable.
• A minimum of three years experience in data analysis and visualization roles.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI and Tableau platforms.
• Deep understanding of BI methodologies, data modeling, and visualization best practices.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to transform raw data into meaningful insights.
• Experience integrating Microsoft Power Platform tools such as Power Apps and Power Automate into business solutions.
• Proven track record of delivering BI projects within large, complex organizations.
• Effective communication and presentation skills to bridge technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Experience managing end-to-end BI project lifecycles and multitasking in dynamic environments.
• Collaborative mindset for building strong relationships across internal and external stakeholders.

• Contract Duration: 4+ months with potential for extension
