Role Overview

The Banquet Captain plays a vital role in overseeing banquet service operations to guarantee seamless execution of events aligned with The Ritz-Carlton Gold Standards. This position leads the banquet service team during various functions to deliver exceptional, personalized guest experiences marked by attention to detail and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage banquet service personnel throughout meetings, weddings, conferences, and special occasions.
  • Ensure that all events run in strict adherence to banquet event orders (BEOs), brand standards, and guest requirements.
  • Proactively anticipate guest preferences, customize service, and cultivate memorable experiences in line with The Ritz-Carlton’s service philosophy.
  • Act as the main liaison for guests during events, addressing requests, resolving concerns, and facilitating service recovery when necessary.
  • Uphold professional service conduct and appearance consistently.
  • Conduct pre-event briefings to outline event specifics, service sequences, and staff roles.
  • Collaborate closely with Culinary, Sales, Stewarding, and Event Management teams to ensure smooth event flow.
  • Verify proper setup of function rooms, including table layouts, décor, AV equipment, and service instruments.
  • Oversee food and beverage service to confirm timing, presentation, quality, and temperature meet standards.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene protocols, and alcohol service regulations.
  • Allocate tasks and manage staffing levels to optimize performance during events.
  • Coach, inspire, and support banquet associates to maintain excellent service levels.
  • Assist with training new employees while reinforcing brand service expectations.
  • Exemplify leadership behaviors that foster a respectful and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Check accuracy of BEO details, attendance counts, menu choices, and event timings.
  • Confirm event billing accuracy by validating consumption, charges, and completion particulars.
  • Maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and proper care of banquet equipment and storage areas.
  • Participate actively in daily team meetings and continuous service improvement initiatives.

Candidate Profile

  • Previous experience in banquet or food and beverage supervisory roles, ideally within luxury hotel settings.
  • Strong leadership qualities paired with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to multitask efficiently in dynamic environments.
  • Thorough knowledge of different banquet service formats including plated, buffet, cocktail, and family-style.
  • Familiarity with food safety standards, hygiene practices, and beverage service guidelines.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • Work Experience: Less than one year of relevant experience preferred.
  • Supervisory Background: No prior supervisory experience required.
