Role overview
This position is for a bank teller in Clonakilty, County Cork, working onsite on a contract basis. The role focuses on delivering accurate, dependable banking support while building strong relationships with customers. The successful candidate will be expected to bring previous teller experience, solid banking knowledge, and strong customer service skills. The role also includes responsibilities linked to account opening, cash control, compliance, and branch support.
Customer service
- Serve customers quickly and professionally during transactions.
- Respond to questions, handle concerns, and help maintain a positive customer experience.
- Open new bank accounts for customers where the appropriate regulatory qualification is held.
Cash handling
- Work with tills, scanners, the bank safe, and related equipment.
- Keep the cash drawer balanced and follow all security procedures.
- Manage cash deliveries.
Sales and product promotion
- Introduce customers to suitable bank products and services.
- Look for opportunities to cross-sell and upsell where appropriate.
Compliance and risk control
- Adhere to internal policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Spot and escalate suspicious behaviour or possible fraud.
Transaction records and administration
- Keep transaction records accurate and up to date.
- Maintain the visitor log.
- Handle account opening and account maintenance files.
- Record and correct errors when they occur.
Teamwork
- Work with branch colleagues to support overall team objectives.
- Step in to help other team members when needed.
Experience and qualifications
Applicants should have prior experience in a bank teller role. A recognised qualification that allows the role holder to discuss product information with customers is preferred, but not essential. Examples include QFA, APA in Loans, or APA in Savings & Investments.
Skills required
Strong written, spoken, and listening communication skills are important, along with the ability to work well as part of a team. The role also calls for excellent organisation, close attention to detail, and confidence using Outlook, Excel, and Word.
