Job Overview
This fixed-term full-time role (37.5 hours/week) at Band 5 level is a maternity cover position at Luton and Dunstable Hospital, offered by Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The salary ranges between 32073 and 39043 per annum. Main Duties
- Perform high quality imaging examinations in various settings including main X-ray, emergency department, wards, and theatre suites.
- Ensure all imaging procedures comply with IR(ME)R 2017 regulations, justifying each exam and operating equipment to keep radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable.
- Demonstrate precision and effective coordination to produce accurate and timely diagnostic images.
- Assess patient workload and prioritize tasks independently, maintaining professional accountability.
- Provide patient care tailored to individual age, condition, and clinical context, offering empathy and reassurance during imaging procedures.
- Communicate complex medical information appropriately to patients, overcoming potential understanding barriers.
- Maintain safe handling and moving of patients using proper equipment and techniques.
- Operate and maintain specialized radiographic equipment responsibly, reporting faults to senior staff.
- Engage in continuous professional development and maintain a portfolio to ensure ongoing competency.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Registration:
- BSc in Diagnostic Radiography
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Experience working within the NHS
Desirable: Evidence of postgraduate study or relevant CPD, and experience in student mentorship or training.
Knowledge:
- Advanced anatomical knowledge pertinent to radiography
- Understanding of disease pathology visible on X-rays
- Thorough knowledge of IRMER regulations
Desirable: Awareness of healthcare data protection legislation.
Skills:
- Competency using Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and computing skills
- Proficient in producing diagnostic-quality X-ray images including general, portable, theatre, fluoroscopy, dental, and A&E imaging
- Basic understanding of audits, quality improvement, or service development
- Strong patient care skills including communicating with anxious or vulnerable patients
Additional Information
- This is a part-time maternity cover contract for one year.
- The position requires work on site at Luton and Dunstable Hospital, with travel between Bedford and Luton hospitals potentially needed.
