Job description
Role summary
This position is responsible for running manufacturing operations for the assigned shift end to end. The role focuses on delivering safe, efficient, and cost-conscious production of quality products while meeting output targets, improving equipment performance, and ensuring dependable reporting.
The incumbent will supervise shop-floor teams and work with partners across Quality, Engineering, Stores, Dispatch, Agro, and HR to keep production moving without interruption. The job also includes strengthening continuous improvement practices, building team capability, maintaining disciplined execution, and solving operational issues proactively to support long-term business performance.
Production and operational excellence
- Carry out the production plan and meet shift output goals while complying with quality, food safety, and hygiene requirements.
- Improve manpower deployment, machine usage, and line efficiency to raise throughput and reduce losses.
- Keep production lines running smoothly by limiting downtime and ensuring prompt troubleshooting and corrective action.
- Align machine, line, and SKU scheduling with the Production Manager based on available capacity and dispatch needs.
- Track shift performance, study operating data, and act on improvement opportunities to lift productivity.
- Complete end-of-shift closure activities such as stock checks, production reconciliation, and accurate documentation.
Quality, food safety, and EHS
- Follow SOPs, GMP, quality systems, food safety requirements, and company operating procedures without deviation.
- Promote compliance with EHS standards, GEHSMS expectations, and safe working methods to maintain a secure and hygienic workplace.
- Take part in packaging and quality reviews, share action plans, and close identified gaps on time.
- Partner with Quality and Agro teams to resolve raw material and product quality concerns quickly.
Inventory and cross-functional coordination
- Work with Stores to ensure packaging and raw materials are issued and returned on time as per the production plan.
- Coordinate closely with Engineering, Quality, Dispatch, Agro, Planning, and HR so production stays uninterrupted and products are available on schedule.
- Assist with shift roster planning and contract manpower planning along with the Production Coordinator.
People leadership
- Lead, guide, and develop shift teams to create a capable, engaged, and high-performing workforce.
- Assign and reassign manpower according to priorities, skill levels, and operational needs.
- Maintain discipline, effective communication on the shop floor, and employee engagement while resolving day-to-day issues proactively.
- Support team development through coaching, training, and implementation of individual development plans.
Continuous improvement
- Drive TPM and improvement initiatives to increase productivity, cut waste, and improve equipment effectiveness.
- Encourage operational excellence through Kaizen, structured problem-solving, and adoption of best practices.
- Ensure production KPIs are reported accurately and on time, and contribute to KPI reviews and development discussions.
Qualifications and experience
A bachelor's degree in Engineering is required, preferably in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Industrial, Production, Food Technology, or a related field. The role calls for 5 to 6 years of relevant experience in manufacturing or FMCG environments, ideally in food manufacturing or packaging operations.
Applicants should have direct exposure to shift operations, production planning and execution, and team management. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality systems, food safety norms, GMP, and EHS practices is essential.
Experience with TPM, Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, OEE improvement, and loss reduction will be preferred. The role also requires sound analytical and problem-solving ability, strong communication and coordination skills, and the capability to lead cross-functional teams. Knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word will be an advantage. Demonstrated ability to coach, motivate, and develop frontline teams in a fast-paced environment is important.
