Job description

About Crooked Media

At Crooked Media, we firmly believe that combating the rise of authoritarianism requires a strong and united democratic movement. Our mission is to leverage all media tools available to us to foster a broad, diverse coalition committed to democratic principles such as freedom, equality, compassion, and the rule of law.

We strive to create a more constructive dialogue around politics, culture, and global issues — focusing not only on problems but on actionable solutions. Our media network amplifies stories, voices, and opportunities for activism that educate, entertain, and motivate listeners to participate in shaping a better future.

Position Overview

We are seeking an Associate Video Producer for our Video team, reporting directly to the Associate Director of Production. This role emphasizes supporting video content creation across multiple platforms, with a particular focus on YouTube. The position is primarily onsite at our Los Angeles office Monday through Friday, with occasional evening recordings and some remote work options. Candidates based in Los Angeles, or those willing to relocate before starting, are preferred.

Core Responsibilities

  • Aid in adapting Crooked podcasts into video formats by working closely with producers to record sessions.
  • Manage synchronization and collection of audio and video recordings to facilitate post-production workflows.
  • Gather supplementary materials such as images and b-roll footage for editors' use in post-production.
  • Edit brief video segments, including ad reads and short clips intended for social media distribution.
  • Support original video content production through research and asset compilation during pre-production phases.
  • Assist with in-studio and remote production activities as needed.
  • Organize and manage media files and assets for efficient post-production processing.
  • Collaborate with the Video Optimization Specialist by uploading and publishing video content, including creating thumbnails using established templates.
  • Operate cameras during off-site video shoots, assisting producers to set up and execute field recordings, and ensuring proper transfer of footage for editing.

Qualifications

  • One to two years of experience in a studio or production company environment, or equivalent academic and internship experience in media studies.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex technical instructions.
  • Familiarity with Sony FX6 or comparable cameras, including understanding fundamental photography concepts such as aperture, ISO, color temperature, and frame rate.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols involved in handling camera and lighting equipment.
  • Competency in video editing software including Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop.
  • Resourceful and capable of adapting creatively when faced with unexpected challenges.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and maintain flexibility to work certain evenings or weekends with prior notice.

Compensation and Benefits

This position is covered under the Writers Guild of America East Collective Bargaining Agreement and offers an annual salary of $80,000. Full-time employees receive comprehensive benefits such as paid healthcare, 401(k) matching, generous paid leave schemes including sick, bereavement, disability, and pregnancy loss, as well as 20 weeks of paid parental leave. Additional perks include commuter reimbursement or parking allowances, communications stipends, professional development opportunities, and year-end office closures.

Inclusive Culture

We foster an inclusive environment where employees are encouraged to bring their full, authentic selves to work. Our culture celebrates diversity across race, ethnicity, beliefs, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities, and cultural backgrounds, ensuring everyone feels respected and valued.
