Job description

Role Overview

Kanarey is seeking an Associate PR Manager to support public relations efforts across games, anime, entertainment, and pop culture projects. This is an independent contractor role based in Torrance, CA with a hybrid schedule of 30 hours per week. There is a possibility that the position could evolve into a full-time employee role later, depending on business requirements, performance, and overall team fit.

About the Company

Kanarey is a creative and marketing firm headquartered in Los Angeles. The company partners with clients in the gaming and entertainment industries and contributes to PR, marketing strategy, event support, content creation, influencer programs, and creative campaign execution.

What This Role Involves

The Associate PR Manager will partner with the PR Manager and internal teams on day-to-day PR work, including media outreach, research, reporting, and communication with clients. This role is designed for someone with practical PR experience who writes well, communicates clearly, and has a real enthusiasm for games, anime, entertainment, and broader pop culture.

The position suits someone who is still developing their PR career but is ready to take on greater responsibility, work directly with media and clients, and help drive campaigns for entertainment-focused projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to PR campaigns for projects related to games, anime, entertainment, and pop culture.
  • Support media pitching, outreach, and follow-up communication.
  • Create and update media lists for gaming, entertainment, anime, lifestyle, and pop culture publications and outlets.
  • Write, edit, and polish PR materials such as press releases, media alerts, pitch emails, briefing notes, and client summaries.
  • Monitor media coverage, compile results, and assist with performance reporting.
  • Look into media trends, industry developments, gaming communities, creators, and relevant cultural moments.
  • Coordinate with internal colleagues, clients, media contacts, and outside partners.
  • Assist with event-related PR tasks, including press invitations, media coordination, and post-event reporting.
  • Organize PR assets such as press kits, screenshots, trailers, key art, and other campaign materials.
  • Share ideas for PR hooks, media opportunities, creator outreach, and campaign direction.

Requirements

  • At least 2–3+ years of professional PR experience, ideally in games, entertainment, or anime.
  • Strong enthusiasm for games, anime, entertainment, and pop culture.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication abilities.
  • Hands-on experience producing PR materials, pitch emails, media lists, reports, or client-facing documents.
  • Confidence in communicating professionally with media, clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage several projects at once.
  • Comfort working independently while also collaborating closely with a small team.
  • Ability to travel to the Torrance office 2–3 times each week.
  • Must live in the greater Los Angeles area or be able to work reliably from the Torrance office when needed.

Compensation and Notes

Pay is set at $40 to $48 per hour, based on experience. Applicants with direct PR experience in games, anime, or entertainment, strong media relations background, or Japanese/English bilingual ability may receive a higher rate.

Work Arrangement

This role is listed as hybrid and will be performed from Torrance, CA. The engagement begins as an independent contractor arrangement with 30 hours of work per week.

Growth Opportunity

There is a potential pathway for this role to transition into a full-time employee position in the future, subject to company needs, individual performance, and team alignment.
