About the Role
This position is part of the editorial team at Inbox Studio, a digital publisher within the Britannica Group. The team creates and manages digital brands covering travel, lifestyle, general knowledge, and games, reaching more than 27 million engaged readers across 20+ brands through an email-first strategy.
The Associate Photo Editor will work closely with brand editors and photo editors to source, refine, and organize images used across multiple editorial properties. This is a practical, detail-focused role suited to someone with a strong visual sense and an interest in growing within a fast-moving media environment.
Responsibilities
- Find and evaluate images that enhance editorial stories published every day.
- Use Photoshop to make image adjustments such as color correction, resizing, and web/email optimization while following each brand’s visual standards.
- Provide support for basic graphic design tasks using established templates.
- Maintain image metadata, track usage rights, and organize digital files within the media asset management system.
- Work with editors, designers, and photo staff to ensure visuals fit the accompanying written content.
- Check image quality across brands and surface any concerns for review.
- Assist photo editors with special assignments when needed.
- Help maintain a high editorial bar so that visuals remain clear, accurate, engaging, and reliable.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in photography, visual arts, journalism, or a similar discipline, or comparable hands-on experience.
- Comfort and proficiency using Adobe Photoshop and the wider Adobe Creative Suite.
- Working knowledge of image licensing, copyright, and rights management.
- Sound editorial judgement and a sharp eye for strong photography.
- Careful attention to detail in both editorial review and production work.
- Ability to juggle several deadlines at once while maintaining quality.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills for distributed teamwork.
- Preferred: 0–1 year of experience in photo editing or visual media, including internship experience.
- Preferred: experience with a digital asset management platform.
- Preferred: familiarity with Figma, Airtable, and WordPress.
- Preferred: understanding of the digital media environment and current visual trends.
