Role overview
The Associate, Investment Researcher will use alternative data to develop differentiated investment perspectives at the single-stock, sector, and sometimes macro level. The role combines deep dataset understanding, strong fundamental investing instincts, and AI-enabled research methods to improve how investment questions are framed, tested, and answered.
This person will act as a connector between sector and market investment teams and the Investment Data Science teams, helping integrate advanced analytics and AI-driven workflows into day-to-day research and decision-making.
What you will do
- Work alongside investment teams to convert investment questions into structured analytical work using alternative data, AI-based research methods, and advanced analytics.
- Select the most relevant data sources and tools, then turn the findings into insights that support company, sector, and market views.
- Support fundamental research by improving the speed, quality, and confidence of investment decisions.
- Build a strong understanding of how individual datasets should be used, interpreted, and balanced against their limitations and trade-offs.
- Help shape AI-first research workflows that make it easier to source information, analyze businesses, validate hypotheses, and synthesize conclusions.
- Evaluate external data suppliers and solution providers, including the relevance, quality, and practical usefulness of their datasets.
- Work with external partners to ensure datasets are used effectively for investment research objectives.
What you need
- At least 2 years of relevant experience, ideally in private equity, public equities, equity research, investment research, investment banking, corporate finance, or management consulting.
- A solid grounding in corporate finance and accounting.
- Hands-on experience with financial statement analysis, return analysis, valuation work, and company or industry research.
- Strong analytical and research ability, with the skill to connect data-driven work to an investment thesis and underwriting questions.
- An AI-native mindset, including familiarity with different AI tools, workflows, and use cases, plus an understanding of their strengths and limitations.
- Ability to use AI and advanced analytics in a practical way to improve research efficiency, insight generation, hypothesis testing, and investment support.
- Exposure to alternative data is preferred, and using such data in an investing context is a strong plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present analytical findings clearly and influence investment discussions.
- Working knowledge of Python and SQL is preferred, although the main emphasis is on judgment, research application, and AI-enabled workflows.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with investment teams, data science partners, and external providers.
- Comfort working independently, handling ambiguity, and quickly developing understanding across new companies, sectors, and datasets.
