Job description
Role summary
Jefferies is looking for an accomplished Investment Banking Associate to join its Sydney team. A background in the General Industrials sector is preferred. The position involves supporting a wide range of prominent Australian transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, and strategic advisory work.
This role is designed for someone who can contribute directly to deal execution while also working closely with senior leaders and gaining exposure to major regional transactions.
Key responsibilities
- Assist senior bankers with originating, structuring, and executing mergers and acquisitions, equity deals, and other advisory mandates.
- Carry out sector research, financial analysis, and valuation work to support client presentations and transaction activity.
- Develop financial models, pitch materials, and presentation decks for meetings and live deals.
- Help run due diligence workstreams, oversee data room activity, and coordinate with legal, compliance, and related internal teams so transactions progress smoothly.
- Maintain and develop relationships with clients, investors, and industry contacts to uncover new opportunities and grow the firm’s presence in the region.
- Support the development of junior colleagues by sharing guidance, coaching, and training.
Qualifications and experience
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or a related discipline is required; an MBA or CFA is considered an advantage.
- Prior investment banking experience with exposure to M&A, capital markets, or corporate finance is expected.
- Experience contributing to transactions from start to finish is important.
- Strong financial modelling ability and confidence using Excel and PowerPoint are essential.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills are needed.
- The role suits someone who works well under pressure, can juggle multiple assignments, and consistently meets demanding deadlines.
