About the opportunity

An established investment bank is hiring an Associate for its Financial Restructuring team in Frankfurt. The role sits within a leading global restructuring practice and offers a high-impact opportunity for someone with restructuring experience and fluent German. The team works across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, advising on complex distressed situations and restructuring transactions.

Why this firm

  • Recognized as a top global restructuring advisor for more than a decade.
  • Backed by the largest and one of the most experienced restructuring practices in investment banking.
  • Has advised on more than 1,900 transactions involving over USD 4 trillion in aggregate debt claims since 1988.
  • Maintains a growing German presence, with Frankfurt playing a central role in DACH mandates.
  • Operates as an independent advisor with no balance sheet conflicts, supporting objective recommendations and steady deal flow.
  • Offers direct exposure to complex domestic and cross-border matters in a merit-driven, ownership-oriented environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Support live restructuring and distressed engagements across the DACH region for corporates, creditors and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and take ownership of advanced financial models covering liquidity, capital structure, recovery and valuation work.
  • Perform due diligence on distressed businesses, financing structures and restructuring alternatives.
  • Draft client-facing materials, restructuring proposals, term sheets and stakeholder presentations in both German and English.
  • Assist in negotiations among companies, lenders, bondholders and other creditor constituencies.
  • Lead and coordinate Analysts while working with legal counsel, management teams and external counterparties.
  • Contribute to origination efforts and business development within the German-speaking market.

Candidate profile

  • Prior experience in financial restructuring, either in investment banking or restructuring advisory, is required.
  • Approximately 3 to 5 years of relevant experience is expected for this Associate-level position.
  • Strong command of both German and English is essential due to the client base and frequent interaction with stakeholders.
  • Advanced financial modelling, analytical capability and capital structure knowledge are important.
  • Understanding of distressed situations, German restructuring frameworks such as StaRUG, and debt instruments is highly beneficial.
  • Excellent writing, communication and stakeholder-management skills are needed, along with the ability to stay composed under pressure.
  • A strong academic background is preferred, and professional credentials such as CFA are an advantage.
