Job description
About Doing Things
Doing Things builds humor-driven media and branded experiences that help audiences connect through laughter and highly shareable content. Since launching in 2017, the company has grown into a portfolio of more than 35 distinct brands, including well-known Instagram-native properties such as Middle Class Fancy, Shithead Steve, Overheard, Recess Therapy, Bob Does Sports, and Animals Doing Things. Its work spans consumer products, branded partnerships, video licensing, publishing, and original entertainment, with a daily content output of more than 100 original and curated posts reaching nearly 100 million followers across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and Snap.
The business also includes a direct-to-consumer products line with comedic apparel and accessories tied to trends, along with Breezy, its golf apparel brand.
Role Overview
As Associate Creative Director on the branded side of Overheard, you will operate where editorial judgment meets brand strategy. You will be the main creative lead for branded work, guiding client relationships, steering campaign thinking from pre-sale through delivery, and ensuring every output feels native to Overheard’s voice. The role calls for a strong instinct for humor, a sharp sense of what makes content feel human, and the ability to translate that sensibility into branded campaigns without losing authenticity.
What You’ll Do
- Turn client briefs into a single, compelling campaign idea and develop the surrounding creative system.
- Create integrated, multi-format campaign concepts that work together across the full funnel rather than as disconnected posts.
- Lead the RFP process from initial brief to ideation, mockups, decks, and final handoff.
- Act as the creative lead in client conversations, including kickoff calls, pitches, and presentations, while building confidence in the proposed direction.
- Work with the Editorial Director to spot market gaps, content opportunities, and cultural moments with business potential.
- Track competitors, platform changes, and cultural trends to help shape Overheard’s creative approach.
- Manage and coach the Creative Strategist, raising the bar for speed, quality, and execution.
- Partner with Sales leadership so the team can effectively present Overheard’s creative capabilities.
- Oversee campaigns through completion, including revisions, review cycles, and quality control from first draft to final publish.
- Help improve team workflows, briefing methods, and creative systems so the branded team can work more efficiently.
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to build campaign-level strategies that connect multiple formats and touchpoints into one clear idea.
- Strong familiarity with Overheard’s tone, audience expectations, and social-first storytelling style.
- Experience balancing client business goals with editorial quality and creative integrity.
- Comfort leading discussions with brand partners and earning trust in client-facing settings.
- Ability to manage several campaigns at once without sacrificing polish or momentum.
- Experience guiding or mentoring junior creatives and giving direction that supports growth.
- Clear, persuasive writing and presentation skills across decks, calls, and day-to-day communication.
- 5–8+ years of experience in branded content, creative strategy, or social media creative, ideally within digital media, entertainment, or a social-first brand.
