Job description

Role Overview

The Associate Content Manager is accountable for managing the content of a designated list of journals that are either outsourced under the supplier management model or handled internally. This role may also involve performing article-related tasks for the team as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Managing the publication process for assigned journals.
  • Ensuring timely and quality completion of individual articles by suppliers.
  • Providing guidance to journal editors, editorial board members, and contributors, while directing inquiries within Sage as necessary to foster strong external partnerships.
  • Evaluating supplier work quality and reporting findings to senior management.
  • Advising supplier managers regarding specific journal service needs, including turnaround times and specialized editing requirements.
  • Handling and escalating supplier queries appropriately.
  • Implementing continuous improvement initiatives and new metadata standards by collaborating with Editorial, PTD, and IT teams under a lean workflow framework.
  • Keeping management and internal publishing editors updated on scheduling, relationship, and budgeting matters, and coordinating with other departments as needed.
  • Coordinating with commercial sales teams to ensure timely release of supplements and advertisements aligned with negotiated revenue agreements.
  • Overseeing the quality of metadata accompanying articles as required by business standards.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong organizational capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication as well as time management skills.
  • Adaptability to thrive in a dynamic and continuously changing environment.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Previous experience in a Production Editor role or a closely related position.
